Combining information to estimate standardized partial regression coefficients in a linear model is discussed. The observed probability "p" is the social scientist's primary tool for evaluating the outcome of statistical hypothesis tests. The small-sample accuracy of nonnull asymptotic distributions of several functions of "p" was studied. Implications for use of the approximations are discussed. (SLD)

The use of statistical methods to combine the results of independent empirical research studies (metanalysis) has a long history, with work mainly divided into tests of the statistical significance of combined results and methods for combining estimates across studies. Methods of metanalysis and their applications are reviewed. (SLD)

To facilitate meta-analysis of diverse study findings, a mixed linear model with fixed random effects is presented and illustrated with data from teacher expectancy experiments. The standardized effect size is viewed as random and the variation among effect sizes is modeled as a function of study characteristics. (Author/BS).
