Transforming Arts Education in Digital Environments: Quasi-Experimental Study of the Impact of Game-Based Learning on Art Knowledge and Interest
Journal of Educational Computing Research, v63 n2 p464-495 2025
This study investigates the effectiveness of digital games in arts education for learning art knowledge and enhancing art interest. Art knowledge includes the topics of art history, production, esthetics, and art criticism. A quasi-experimental approach was used in this study. A 1-month course on arts education digital games was conducted with 40 participants using digital games for the experimental group and traditional instruction for the control group. The pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using descriptive statistics, significance testing, and variance analyses. It was found that arts education digital games were effective for enhancing art knowledge and interest. In addition, study fills a gap in digital game base learning, namely, empirical research on the learning effectiveness of visual arts education in digital games. This study highlights the learning interest and efficiency of learning in digital game-based art learning.
