Salomon, Gavriel; Perkins, D. N. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1987
Discusses the impact of computer programing instruction on cognitive skills and suggests two mechanisms of transfer--low road, from practice, and high road, from generalization. Previous research that tried to measure transfer from programing is reviewed, six categories in which transfer might occur are presented, and 71 references are provided.…

Applegate, Brooks – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1993
Describes a study that was conducted to explore how kindergarten and second-grade students are able to structure and solve geometric analogy problems in a computer-based test and to compare the results to a paper-and-pencil test format. Use of the Test of Analogical Reasoning in Children is described. (18 references) (LRW)

Cox, Dorothy A.; Berger, Carl F. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1985
This study examined microcomputer use by individual students and groups of two, three, and five seventh- and eighth-grade students to discover any relationship existing between group size and achievement of a correct problem solution, and whether there is a relationship between group size and time to solution. Lieber, Joan; Semmel, Melvyn I. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1987
Describes a study which compared the performance of learning handicapped and nonhandicapped boys in grades four, five, and six working in like pairs, mixed pairs, and individually at the computer on a mathematics problem-solving task. It was found that the boys worked as effectively in pairs as they did individually. (LRW)

Jackson, David F.; And Others – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1993
Discussion of graphing software for educational purposes focuses on a study in which three versions of an original computer graphing program were used by inner-city high school students to solve scientific data analysis problems. Variations in degrees of flexibility and feedback in the software are explored. (Contains 37 references.) (LRW)

Leso, Tim; Peck, Kyle L. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1992
Describes a study of undergraduates that was conducted to describe differences in anxiety in students entering two computer courses (i.e., a problem-solving and programing course and a software applications course) and to assess changes in anxiety levels attributed to each course. Further research is suggested. (19 references) (LRW)
