Self-Help Quit Smoking Interventions: Effects of Self-Help Materials, Social Support Instructions, and Telephone Counseling.
Orleans, C. Tracy; And Others
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v59 n3 p439-48 Jun 1991
Smokers (n=2,021) received experimental self-quitting guide emphasizing nonaversive behavioral strategies; same guide with support guide for family and friends; both guides plus telephone counseling; or control group guide of motivational and quit tips. Controls achieved quit rates similar to those of subjects using experimental guide. Telephone counseling increased adherence to quitting protocol and quit rates. (Author/NB)
