Peer reviewedGoh, David S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Examined the validity coefficients of all possible WISC-R short forms of several subtests. Comparisons were made between coefficients given by McNemar's and Silverstein's formulas to determine "best" short forms for different uses. Results indicated only a slight difference between short forms selected by the two methods. (Author)

Peer reviewedHolden, Ronald R.; Jackson, Douglas N. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1981
Examined the usefulness of subtle personality scales in which test respondents are provided with knowledge and motivation to distort self-presentation. Results indicated that subtle scales were not superior when faking occurred. Scores under these faking conditions were less valid, failing to support the utility of disguised approaches. (Author)

Peer reviewedFowler, Patrick C. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Presented for 64 subjects a replication of the Family Environment Scale's maximum likelihood factor structure for which the two-factor, Varimax-rotated solution was found to be stable when the correlations among the subscales were corrected for the effects of social desirability response bias. Peer reviewedHiltonsmith, Robert W.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Investigated the utility of the Revised Beta as a screening device for low-functioning minority-group criminal offenders. Mean scores for this sample were correlated only mildly. This finding contradicts prior research and creates the need for caution in using the Beta as a screening device with this population. (Author)

Peer reviewedMcVaugh, William H.; Grow, Richard T. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Evaluated techniques for identifying faking on the Personality Inventory for Children (PIC). Undergraduate students (N=70) completed PICs on their child either faking bad, faking good, or legitimate. Results were cross-validated against a clinical sample. Results indicated a clinician cannot be certain a PIC profile is valid. (JAC)

Categorization Agreement of the Personality Attributes Questionnaire and the Bem Sex Role Inventory.
Peer reviewedGaa, John P.; Liberman, Dov – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1981
Investigated the extent to which the Personality Attributes Questionnaire and the Bem Sex Role Inventory assigned the same individuals to identical sex-role categories. Less than 55 percent of the subjects were assigned to identical categories. Suggests care must be taken when comparing results of studies that employ different instruments. (Author)

Peer reviewedCollaer, Marcia Lee; Evans, James R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Obtained normative data from 305 children on a Coding Recall Measure adapted from the WISC-R. Although coding recall has face validity as a visual memory measure, there are some contradictions to such clinical use in view of possible lack of representativeness of the sample and limited reliability and validity.
