A study of German fifth graders correlates high levels of test anxiety with decreased student achievement. To minimize this effect, teachers must foster a balance between efficient use of class time with attention to student needs. Suggestions on how to create a learning, rather than a testing, environment are given. (JL)

Seven forms of intellectual accomplishment are identified; each type forms the basis of a certain learning style. This article outlines how to recognize the characteristics of each form of intelligence and how to supply the materials, activities, and experiences that will reinforce these strengths in students. Results of research based on observations of four- and five-year-olds indicate that in pretend play, children acted more mature, played together more, and were more social than in nonpretend settings.
