Cho, Sun-Joo; Li, Feiming; Bandalos, Deborah – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2009
The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of the parallel analysis (PA) method for choosing the number of factors in component analysis for situations in which data are dichotomous or ordinal. Although polychoric correlations are sometimes used as input for component analyses, the random data matrices generated for use in PA…

Racioppo, Vincent; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
This paper presents a revised and updated version of a FORTRAN program which computes all indices used in the Flanders' Interaction Matrix. The new program has added another form of data input which simplifies data entry. The new version also has the capability of interactive terminal use. (Author)

McQuitty, Louis L.; Koch, Valerie L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
A relatively reliable and valid hierarchy of clusters of objects is plotted from the highest column entries, exclusively, of a matrix of interassociations between the objects. Having developed out of a loose definition of types, the method isolates both loose and highly definitive types, and all those in between. (Author/RC)

Kaiser, Henry F.; Cerny, Barbara A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A method for obtaining teacher ratings from incomplete student ranking data is presented. The procedure involves finding the scores for the teachers on the first principal component of a student intercorrelation matrix, where the missing data are supplied by least squares. (Author)

Morris, John D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
A Computer program written in FORTRAN IV is presented which will create a population of desired size with marginally normal score vectors manifesting any desired centroid and covariance matrix. Uses and documentation are provided. (Author)

Bohannon, Tom; Smith, W. B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A method for estimating variance-covariance matrices with incomplete data for use in discriminant function analysis is presented. An example of its use in college algebra course placement is also presented. (JKS)

Raymond, Mark R.; Roberts, Dennis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Data were simulated to conform to covariance patterns taken from personnel selection literature. Incomplete data matrices were treated by four methods. Treated matrices were subjected to multiple regression analyses. Resulting regression equations were compared to equations from original, complete data. Results supported using covariate…

Huberty, Carl J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The basic notion of variability is generalized from a univariate context to a multivariate context using two matrix functions, a determinant, and a trace, yielding a number of alternative multivariate indices of shared variation. Some problems in the interpretation of tests of multivariate hypotheses are reviewed. (Author/BW)

Carroll, Robert M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Examines the similarity between the coordinates which resulted when correlations were used as similarity measures and the factor loadings obtained by factor analyzing the same correlation matrix. Real data, a set of error free data, and some computer generated data containing deliberately introduced sampling error are analyzed. (RC)

Vigneau, Francois; Bors, Douglas A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2005
The problem of dimensionality with respect to Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) specifically and, more generally, "g" or fluid intelligence, has been a long-standing issue. The present article reports two studies examining the dimensionality of both the original Set II of the APM (n = 506) and a short form (n = 644), using principal…
