Schools Must Rebuild Trust
Pondiscio, Robert
Educational Leadership, v80 n1 p64-67 Sep 2022
Schools are facing a growing number of disaffected parents. To win them back, says one policy analyst, educators need to take their concerns to heart. After two-and-a-half pandemic years, writes policy analyst Robert Pondiscio, public schools are facing a growing number of disaffected parents--a trend reflected in declining enrollments. Pondiscio argues that this wave of parent dissatisfaction is the result of prolonged school closures as well a tendency toward "insiderism" and ideological bias in the education profession. Regaining parents' trust, he writes, will "require a spirit of openness, candor, and perhaps a shift in mindset" among educators. "The stakes for public schools couldn't be higher."
