Mediated Learning Experience in Free-Play versus Structured Situations among Preschool Children of Low-, Medium- and High-SES.
Tzuriel, David
Early Child Development and Care, v126 p57-82 Dec 1996
Examined relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and mediated learning experience (MLE) in mother-child free-play and structured interaction situations, and how well MLE predicted cognitive performance of kindergartners. Found that MLE scores were positively related to SES, and higher in free-play than in structured situations, especially in the high SES group. MLE processes predicted children's analogical thinking.
