Britain Sets Guidelines on Islamic Extremism
Labi, Aisha
Chronicle of Higher Education, v53 n15 pA31 Dec 2006
The British government has published a long-anticipated report containing guidelines designed to help higher-education institutions combat Islamic extremism. The report entitled "Promoting Good Campus Relations: Working With Staff and Students to Build Community Cohesion and Tackle Violent Extremism in the Name of Islam at Universities and Colleges," notes that no evidence exists to suggest that violent activity in the name of Islam is widespread in Britain. But, it says, higher-education institutions are at risk of becoming havens for groups that espouse such activity. This article discusses measures that institutions are asked to take.
