A study on foundation grant patterns, which found that certain types of institutions get more gifts--and larger ones--than do others, is described. After an intensive study, Smith College decided on outside management as trustee for their pooled income fund. Data collected by Group Attitudes Corporation as part of a nation-wide survey of public attitudes toward higher education is discussed. Twenty-six percent of all respondents who had been to college said that they had made some sort of donation to the undergraduate institution they attended. (MLW)
