Self-Portraits Wanted!
Nadeau, Pamela A.
Arts & Activities, v152 n1 p34-35, 42-43 Sep 2012
When the author was training to be an art educator, she was employed as a sixth-grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher. When the author moved into the art teacher position at the very same school, she borrowed her cooperating teacher Kim Donovan's ELA project, in which students will design an 1800s-style "wanted poster," and transformed it into an art lesson. This art lesson involves self-portraiture, history, a self-character study and a bit of writing. The "wanted poster" lesson is one of those eye-catching and awe-inspiring projects. These posters are a way for students to highlight a skill or talent, as they all learn about each other.
