The computer assisted speech tool approach is designed to facilitate record keeping and prescriptive teaching for individual deaf students. The program produces a personalized listing of the student's current level of speech skill in profile form and a description of the instructional sequence for six appropriate speech subskills. Ninety-six hearing impaired students (seven to 15 years old) completed cloze versions of stories written at the students' respective reading levels. Comparison of the cloze results to both probe and free response measures of comprehension indicated that the cloze procudure produced valid discrimination. (Author/CL)
