Built to preserve open space and views of two historic buildings, all but 5 percent of Williamson Hall, at the University of Minnesota, is underground. Because of its heat retention characteristics, heating is unnecessary until the temperature falls below -20 degrees Fahrenheit. (Author/MLF)
