A Computer Coordinator's Network: Filling a Collegial Void.
Handler, Marianne G.
The rapid growth of computers in schools has brought about the equally rapid growth of persons to coordinate computer education programs and work with teachers and students. For these persons there is often a "collegial void," a lack of others with whom to share ideas and concerns. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development and evaluation of a computer coordinators' network, designed to provide support for teachers who have responsibility for computer education in elementary schools of their district. This collaborative environment allowed for persons with similar responsibilities to discuss and reflect upon common concerns and problems. The value of networking as a form of staff development is demonstrated. Recommendations related to planning, organization, structure, and on-going activities of the group are discussed in the paper.
