Intuitive and Logical Reasoning Approaches to Multi-Dimensional Problems.
Means, Barbara
Reported is an attempt to examine the nature of the reasoning used by college students who consistently erred on timer tape problems and a comparison of their performance with that of students who made logical responses. The author suggests that the poor performance of students, classified as intuitive responders, is a result of their use of an incorrect solution strategy rather than as a result of cognitive immaturity or inability to mentally coordinate information about two dimensions.
