Amelia C. Warden; Christopher D. Wickens; Daniel Rehberg; Benjamin A. Clegg; Francisco R. Ortega – Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications, 2025
This work examines the influence of clutter when presenting information with a head-mounted display (HMD). We compare clutter costs when displays overlay a real-world scene to the costs of visual scanning required when displays are presented separately. Using an HMD in safety-critical environments reduces repetitive visual scanning and head…

Meg Farrell; Monika Martin; Ricardo Böheim; Alexander Renkl; Werner Rieß; Karen D. Könings; Jeroen J. G. van Merriënboer; Tina Seidel – Instructional Science: An International Journal of the Learning Sciences, 2024
In teacher education, video representations of practice offer a motivating means for applying conceptual teaching knowledge toward real-world settings. With video analysis, preservice teachers can begin cultivating professional vision skills through noticing and reasoning about presented core teaching practices. However, with novices' limited…

Bodén, Ulrika; Stenliden, Linnéa – Designs for Learning, 2019
This paper investigates the potential aspects of visual literacy that might appear when visual analytics and students interact in social science secondary classrooms. Interacting with visual technology likely demands new forms of literacy as various dimensions of complexity emerge in such learning activities where reading imposes order and…

Yu, Chen; Yurovsky, Daniel; Xu, Tian – Infancy, 2012
Infant eye movements are an important behavioral resource to understand early human development and learning. But the complexity and amount of gaze data recorded from state-of-the-art eye-tracking systems also pose a challenge: how does one make sense of such dense data? Toward this goal, this article describes an interactive approach based on…

Brown, Cherylee M.; Packer, Tanya L.; Passmore, Anne – Journal of Special Education, 2013
This study describes the classroom environment that students with visual impairment typically experience in regular Australian early education. Adequacy of the classroom environment (teacher training and experience, teacher support, parent involvement, adult involvement, inclusive attitude, individualization of the curriculum, physical…

Peer reviewedGawande, A.; And Others – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1992
This study of the effects of lenses of different colors on the visual abilities and comfort of 20 patients with retinal disease found that, in home trials, the critical issue was density more than color. Office tests of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity with colored lenses did not predict subjective benefit. (Author/JDD)
