Celepkolu, Mehmet; Galdo, Aisha Chung; Boyer, Kristy Elizabeth – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2022
As children develop conversational skills such as taking turns and openly listening to ideas, they often experience conflicts and inequity within collaborative dialogue for learning. Eshghi, Arash; Healey, Patrick G. T. – Cognitive Science, 2016
Anecdotal evidence suggests that participants in conversation can sometimes act as a coalition. This implies a level of conversational organization in which groups of individuals form a coherent unit. This paper investigates the implications of this phenomenon for psycholinguistic and semantic models of shared context in dialog. We present a…

Ajjawi, Rola; Boud, David – Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, 2017
A variety of understandings of feedback exist in the literature, which can broadly be categorised as cognitivist information transmission and socio-constructivist. Understanding feedback as information transmission or "telling" has until recently been dominant. However, a socio-constructivist perspective of feedback posits that feedback…

Knutsen, Dominique; Le Bigot, Ludovic – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2015
Not all pieces of information mentioned during an interaction are equally accessible in speakers' conversational memory. The current study sought to test whether 2 basic features of dialogue management (reference acceptance and reuse) affect reference recognition. Abrams, Zsuzsanna – L2 Journal, 2016
Pragmatics is an underrepresented area in L2 instruction, in spite of disciplinary emphasis on communicative skills (de Pablos-Ortega, 2011; Eisenchlas, 2011). Films have been shown to be capable of mitigating this lack of pedagogically prepared materials (Abrams, 2014; Kambara, 2011; Fernández-Guerra, 2008; Grant & Starks, 2001; Washburn,…

Wilson, Thomas P.; Zimmerman, Don H. – Discourse Processes, 1986
Indicates a periodic structure in the distribution of between-turn silences in two-party conversation, a finding that is inconsistent with current stochastic or signaling models, which view social interaction as an exchange of stimuli and responses. Finds that social interaction is fundamentally a collaborative activity. (JD)

Nienhuys, Terry G.; And Others – Applied Psycholinguistics, 1985
Analyzes dialogs between mothers and their deaf or hearing children, while controlling for child age and linguistic ability. Results showed that the conversational interaction in mother-child dyads with deaf children was more restricted than that with hearing children. This seemed to be related to the linguistic ability of the deaf children. (SED)
