Defines the interactive timeout interval (ITI) as the amount of time that is allowed to lapse between user entries before the computer assumes that the terminal is abandoned and stops polling it. A method for determining optimal ITI, thereby increasing system efficiency of online catalogs, is demonstrated. (10 references) (CLB)
