Peer reviewedBartling, Carl A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Several measures of reliability and validity were used to compare a shortened and a complete form of the Inventory of Learning Processes. Very similar reliability and validity statistics were produced with the two forms. Surprisingly low, validity coefficients were produced with both inventories. (Author/LMO)

Peer reviewedLeiden, Lisa I.; And Others – Academic Medicine, 1990
Through analysis of 2 learning-style tests given to 79 medical students at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, it was concluded that learning inventory tests are not good predictors of academic performance. Better test instructions or published standardized norms would make these tests better predictors. (GLR)

Peer reviewedRibich, Fred D.; Schmeck, Ronald R. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1979
Three self-report instruments assessing learning style were administered to 106 undergraduates. Performance measures on word list and prose learning tasks were also obtained using both immediate and delayed retention tests. Canonical correlation analysis of the pairs of instruments indicated a small to moderate amount of overlapped variance.…

Peer reviewedWatkins, David; Hattie, John – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Investigations of the Inventory of Learning Processes (ILP) with college freshmen revealed satisfactory internal consistency coefficients for two of the four ILP scales but cast doubt on the factor structure of the inventory. As predictors of grade point average of Australian students, the scales were successful. (Author/GK)

Gadzella, B. M.; And Others – 1987
The Inventory of Learning Processes (ILP) was developed by Schmeck, Ribich, and Ramanaiah in 1977 as a self-report inventory to assess learning style through a behavioral-oriented approach. The ILP was revised by Schmeck in 1983. The Revised ILP contains six scales: (1) Deep Processing; (2) Elaborative Processing; (3) Shallow Processing; (4)…

Peer reviewedLockhart, Dan; Schmeck, R. R. – College Student Journal, 1983
Used data from a college classroom to demonstrate the value of taking student learning styles into consideration when designing and revising a course. Learning styles were assessed in 58 students using the Inventory of Learning Processes. Casual path analyses revealed relationships between certain evaluation components and certain learning styles.…

Peer reviewedSchmeck, R. R.; Ribich, F. D. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
Two correlational investigations attempted to establish the construct validity of the dimensions assessed by the Inventory of Learning Processes scales. The scales are Synthesis-Analysis; Study Methods; Fact Retention; and Elaborative Processing. A number of cognitive tests were also administered. (MH)

Lavelle, Ellen; Rickord, Bill – 1997
This research study reports the results of an attempt to build a model of individual differences in undergraduate student development based on factor analysis of a wide range of students' beliefs and behaviors. An 127-item inventory named the Dakota Inventory of Student Orientations was administered to 738 male and female undergraduate students in…
