Continuous Improvement Leads to Great Thinking in Chaotic Times
Brandi Nicole Hinnant-Crawford; Stacey Caillier
Learning Professional, v46 n4 p38-41 2025
History shows that learning and collaborative inquiry are the path forward. Continuous improvement can produce great thinking and learning that enables the continuation to support the most vulnerable children. Civil rights organizers, such as Septima Clark, are viewed as model improvers. Regarded by many as the queen of the Civil Rights Movement, Clark was a brilliant pedagogue who taught young people and adults literacy, numeracy, and citizenship skills to enable them to pass literacy tests for voting. This article presents Clark's lessons and teachings, in particular: (1) Believe in the magic of people; (2) Set an ambitious vision; (3) Learn with collaborative inquiry and data for improvement; (4) Leverage your resources; and (5) Embrace radical hope.
