Supporting Inclusive Teaching: A Faculty Cohort Approach Utilizing Online Training
Casey Dexter
Journal of Faculty Development, v39 n1 p28-32 2025
With an ever-increasing diverse college student population, pedagogical strategies must reflect awareness of social identity development in ways that meet the needs of all students. This article describes a faculty cohort approach utilizing a blend of asynchronous, instructor-paced online coursework and synchronous meetings (led by faculty developers) to help faculty developers facilitate training opportunities related to inclusive teaching practices. Faculty reported improved ability to be more inclusive as an educator based on their training. This approach provides an innovative strategy to a pressing higher education need in 2025--the need for rapid progress related to diversity, equity, and inclusion as it pertains to teaching and learning in the classroom.
