The prevalence of communication disorders in a population of 242 children with learning disabilities between 8 and 12 years of age was determined. This article presents a case study of a child with Hunter's syndrome, a genetic disorder often resulting in a degeneration of speech and language functioning and hearing loss. A conceptual model is presented for the assessment and treatment of cognitive-communication impairments in closed-head-injury patients. Neurobehavioral assessment is suggested in place of neuropsychological testing.
