Nursing Delineation Pilot Study, 1981-1982. Volume 2: Report of Results. Kentucky Nursing Education Project.
Kentucky State Council on Higher Education, Frankfort.
Results are presented of the Nursing Delineation Pilot Study, which was conducted in 1981-1982 as part of a nursing project to develop a coordinated statewide system of nursing education in Kentucky. Gilpatrick's Health Services Mobility Study Method of Task Analysis and Curriculum Design (1977) was used to identify and describe tasks of different categories of nursing personnel. Over 900 pages of task descriptions and skill/knowledge requirements are presented according to clusters (administration, clinical, and education) and levels. Each task description was scaled for the type and level of skill and knowledge required for its successful performance and was annotated regarding which part(s) of the task requires this type and level of skill and knowledge. Based on task rankings, cluster analysis was performed to identify groups of tasks. The levels of practice within each group were distinguished by weighting the scale values for each skill or knowledge area. Finally, the job descriptions and corresponding educational objectives were compiled from the task data for each level of practice. (SW)
