Extension Resources To Support Rural Families Experiencing Economic Stress. The Families in Transition Subcommittee Report.
North Central Regional Center for Rural Development, Ames, IA.
The report and resource directory contained in this document represent the efforts of the Rural Families in Transition Work Group, one of six such groups recently created to respond to key issues arising from the farm financial crisis. The directory is intended for use by extension agents in identifying educational resources across the region that might apply to farm and rural families facing transition into new occupations due to economic hardship. States served by the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development are Kansas, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and South Dakota. A resource matrix lists 47 potential objectives related to rural families in transition and references them to 102 resources. The areas addressed are: work, mental health, social support, and family resource management. Objectives within each area are organized under the categories of youth, family, or community. Many of the resources are information packages used at workshops or in other group learning settings. The Resource Catalogue section devotes a page of information about each resource. Each entry includes the title, a description of the materials, the format of the materials, methods of presenting or delivering the information, the state of origination, information on availability including address and phone number, and cost, if any.
