The purposes of this directory are to provide a ready reference for individuals and organizations with rural interests; to provide a sense of perspective on the various professions, ethnic groups, and special concerns represented by national organizations with rural interests; and to facilitate cooperation among organizations with similar priorities. Each organizational entry (N=approximately 130 entries) is coded according to lobbying, membership, research, and/or service categories, and the code(s) appear at the bottom of each entry and in the index at the back of the directory. Each entry includes: organizational name and address; contact person's name and phone number; a brief description of the organization including membership, staff, and other relevant statistics; and organizational publications. Information regarding these organizations is drawn from a number of individuals and a few published sources including; the Encylopedia of Associations, Volume I, tenth edition, Margaret Fisk, Editor; Who's Involved with Hunger: An Organization Guide, Patricia L.
