Federal Programs Supporting Lifelong Learning.
Christoffel, Pam, Comp.
Approximately 275 Federal programs support some form of lifelong learning. While the majority of the lifelong learning programs are administered by the various agencies within HEW, a significant number of programs are run by such Federal agencies as the Department of Justice, the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities, and the Smithsonian Institution. For the purpose of this compilation, a Federal program supporting lifelong learning was defined as one that served all types of students past compulsory age through the provision of educational and training services. Such services must benefit individuals directly. The listing includes the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) catalog number and the overseeing House and Senate Committees. (JMF)
