In response to a need for communication among people who want to improve the teaching of psychology, this compendium describes almost 600 innovative undergraduate teaching methods, courses, and programs in psychology. It is intended to be functionally descriptive, not evaluative. Two salient trends identified during the compilation are (1) the attempt to make psychology content more relevant to the student's own life and (2) the individualization of instruction, making it more effective for heterogeneous student groups. The directory is divided into two major sections: the first specifies the various categories of innovations and the second consists of descriptions of the innovations themselves. The major categories are curriculum; method of content delivery; individualization of instruction; learning through experience; evaluation, feedback and grading; and course management. Descriptions of the innovations provide detailed explanations of the programs, data on grade level, prerequisites for students, funding, evaluation, institutional characteristics, and name, address, and phone number of the innovator.
