An Annotated Bibliography of Current Literature Dealing with Stroke Education Programs in a Physical Rehabilitation Setting.
Donohue, Ann Teresa
This study makes available to nurses and other rehabilitation team members pertinent information to meet stroke patients' educational needs. The study was conducted to support the theory that those patients and families who actively participate in a stroke education program will more positively cope with the losses resulting from the disability than those persons who allow the event to overwhelm them. The information and recommendations provided to health professionals by this study are intended to establish and improve stroke rehabilitation health curricula in medical facilities. An introductory section defines the problem, explains the significance, organization and limitations of the study, and provides a list of definitions of terms used. Bibliographic annotations are grouped under the following categories: (1) stroke medical care--assessment and treatment; (2) stroke curriculum--holistic needs and specific needs; (3) patient education--patient teaching and teaching guides; and (4) educational program implementation--non-stroke programs and stroke programs. A summary of findings is provided and conclusion and recommendations are offered. (JD)
