This report contains data on students with disabilities (ages 3-21) in South Carolina public schools during the 1996-97 school year. The data indicate that special education students (ages 5-21) represent 12.9 percent of the student enrollment in South Carolina. The included data charts depict the following information: (1) children with disabilities ages 3-5 served in public school programs by school district and placement; (2) children ages 6-21 served in public school programs by type of disability; (3) children ages 6-21 served in public school programs in the self-contained program model by type of disability; (4) children ages 6-21 served in public school programs in the resource program model by type of disability; (5) children ages 6-21, served in the public school program in the regular program model by type of disability; (6) children ages 6-21 served in other agency programs, in all other modes of service delivery, by type of disability; (7) teachers in public school programs that serve children with disabilities ages 3-5; (8) teachers in public school programs that are serving children with disabilities ages 6-21; and (9) other personnel in public school programs serving children with disabilities ages 3-21.
