This case discusses my experiences of entering the field and establishing rapport with a particular community. I wanted to be accepted and trusted among community members in order to conduct qualitative research and to investigate the daily practices of Somali refugee women. Data collection methods in the study were to include participant observation, recording of field notes, and in-depth interviews with community members. The goal of the research was to shed light on the daily practices of refugee women in order to inform educators and policy makers about these women's skills and resources that may be overlooked. Many textbooks discuss dilemmas that occur with entering the field in anthropological study, and this case gives a first-hand account of the steps I took in order to enter the field.
