Chen, Chia-Ling; Chen, Po-Hsi; Chang, Chien-Ju; Wang, Chia-Chi; Hsieh, Yu-Wei; Huang, Hsiang-Han; Hong, Wei-Hsien – Infant and Child Development, 2021
This study aimed to develop an illustration-based developmental motor screening questionnaire (DMSQi) for young children and examined its psychometric properties. 463 young children and their caregivers were collected and received the DMSQi assessment. DMSQi is made up of two domains. The gross motor (GM) domain includes body coordination and…

Egset, Kaja; Wold, Bjørnar; Krogstie, John; Sigmundsson, Hermundur – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 2021
The aim of the study was to focus on whether visual processing differs between distinct levels of reading competence in young adults, from a regular orthography. We compared the 10% highest scoring (HRC) and the 10% lowest scoring groups (LRC) of reading competence (using the word chain test, WCT) in visual processing of global coherent motion and…

Stumpf, Heinrich; Mills, Carol J.; Brody, Linda E.; Baxley, Philip G. – Roeper Review, 2013
The importance of spatial ability for success in a variety of domains, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), is widely acknowledged. Yet, students with high spatial ability are rarely identified, as Talent Searches for academically talented students focus on identifying high mathematical and verbal abilities.…

Veurink, N.; Sorby, S. A. – Engineering Design Graphics Journal, 2012
Spatial skills have been shown to be important to success in an engineering curriculum, and some question if poor spatial skills prevent students from entering STEM fields or if students with weak spatial skills avoid engineering disciplines believed to highly spatially-oriented. Veurink and Hamlin (2011) found that freshmen students entering…

Breen, Michael J. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Elementary school boys in a program for the emotionally disturbed were administered the Revised Beery and Bender-Gestalt. A significant correlation of .73 between age-equivalent scores was obtained. Although mean scores did not differ significantly from one another, scores were quite varied. The implications of such variability are discussed.…
