Results of a study to determine the status of environmental education in Kansas public schools is presented. The investigation points out the need for a statewide coordination effort, by pointing out the disparity between rural and metropolitan programs. (MP)

Some of the major concerns regarding competency-based education (CBE) and ways of dealing with them are discussed. CBE is viewed as an opportunity for educators to work for real improvement in the teaching and learning process. (MP)
