Writing I--A Senior High Course.
Hermann, Bonita A.; Cameron, Dale
Intended for use in teaching a senior high school writing course, this curriculum guide uses career related activities to help students clarify their career goals, practice some common adult writing experiences, and, in general, prepare for the future. Four areas from "real life" experiences are included and may be used separately as individual assignments or expanded into a complete course: (1) self-analysis writing to aid the student in identifying his abilities and the major influences in his life and in researching career possibilities; (2) applying for a job to provide the student with practice in filling out application forms, writing resumes, and interviewing procedures; (3) writing minutes to acquaint the student with organizational roles and meetings; and (4) completing forms to instruct the student in the type of informative writing required by report forms such as those used in accident reports or insurance applications. Each of the four sections consists of five parts: student objectives (stated in behavioral terms), materials needed, day-by-day procedure, notes to the teacher, and activities for student use. Besides improving basic writing skills, these activities are intended to help students develop a respect for work, including its personal as well as social contributions and implications. (ELG)
