This is one of a series of guides being prepared to serve as a reference tool in locating statutory and other provisions (not including attorney general opinions and court decisions) related to selected topics in public sector collective bargaining. Each guide contains a summary and analysis of the provisions found in nearly 90 laws, municipal ordinances, and personnel rules and regulations, and a Legal Provision Finder containing the language of the provisions and a reference to the section of the law where such provisions may be located. A table in an appendix presents an array of the laws adopted in the states up to July, 1976, and the classes of employees covered under these laws. Thirty-nine states and the District of Columbia have adopted some form of legislation covering one or several classes of public employees. Of the 86 state statutes, municipal ordinances, and personnel regulations reviewed, 72 of the authorizations were found to contain some measure regarding the determination of appropriate units.
