You + Others = ???: Self Knowledge and Interpersonal Skills. Developmental Level K-3.
Magnuson, Carolyn
The teaching module is organized to provide students on the K-3 grade level with knowledge, skill, and understanding of self. This module, divided into four learning sequences, helps students to identify and understand feelings and responses to situations. The eight activities in learning sequence 1 identify basic feelings through verbal and written expression, decision making, and discussion. The seven activities in sequence 2, involving role-playing, planning, small group work, and generalization, concentrate on the causes of feelings and their effect on social interaction. In sequence 3, the nine activities explore responses to feelings and evaluation of these responses through pantomime, planning situations, dramatics, group discussion, oral expression, drawing conclusions, and art. The seven activities in sequence 4 explore the effect individuals have on one another and ways of developing interpersonal relationships primarily through art projects. All learning sequences are introduced by: objectives, an overview, and educator's information and preparation tasks. Each activity is organized under the headings of materials/resources, skill development, and adaptations, and contains detailed suggestions for the teacher's use. (JB)
