Directions in Marriage and Family Therapy: Volume 1.
Directions in Marriage and Family Therapy, v1 n1-6 1993
In an effort to help practitioners deal with the great volume of current literature in the field of marriage and family therapy, this compilation attempts to present clinically relevant material in a user-friendly format. Topics selected for inclusion are believed to be up-to-date, informative, and clinically meaningful--as well as theoretically based and empirically grounded. The lessons included in this volume are: (1) "Counseling Children of Divorce" (Paul J. Ciborawski), which relates treatment strategies that evolved out of contemporary research findings; (2) "Family Diagnostic Testing, A Neglected Area of Expertise for the Family Psychologist" (Dennis A. Bagarozzi), which describes several scientifically developed instruments for assessing family systems; (3) "Understanding and Treating the Remarriage Family" (Florence W. Kaslow), which offers advice for clinicians working with reconstituted family systems; (4) "Working with Families Headed by Single Fathers" (Geoffrey L. Greif), a discussion of the practical and emotional concerns of single fathers; (5) "The Role of Family-Treatment Approaches in Adolescent Substance Abuse" (William H. Quinn), which stresses the intergenerational nature of substance abuse; and (6) "Parent Training for Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" (Robert F. Newby), which stresses the importance of parent involvement in treating hyperactive children. Contains references at the end of each issue. (RB)
