Designed as a special continuing education program for rehabilitation professionals, this document is divided into five lessons. Lesson 1, "Technology Assessment: Determining the Needs" (Ricardo G. Cerna), includes discussion on technology assessment and determining the needs of the clients as well as different types of assistive technology that may be employed. Lesson 2, "Assistive Technology and Rehabilitation Counseling" (Chow S. Lam, Charles Merbitz, and Fong Chan), offers information regarding rehabilitation engineering, rehabilitation technology and assistive technology. Lesson 3, "Low-Cost Technology Options for ADA Compliance" (Barry L. Oakes), was designed to offer specific instructions to guide maintenance workers and even nontechnical persons in cost-effectively complying with ADA regulations in the area of building modifications. Lesson 4, "Maximizing Use of Assistive Technology" (Aimee J. Leubben), aims to help decrease the incidence of underused assistive technology devices by outlining an evaluation process for determining client need. Finally, Lesson 5, "Ethical Considerations in Rehabilitation and Technology" (Ruth B. Purtilo), is designed to help the counselor better understand ethical issues in the use of rehabilitation technology. (BF)
