The Wonderful World of Difference. A Human Relations Program for Grades K-8.
B'nai B'rith, New York, NY. Anti-Defamation League.
These course materials provide a starting point for helping students (grades K-8) explore the diversity and richness of the human family. The material is organized sequentially around 20 activities which address seven primary objectives: (1) understanding that differences among people have a positive value to society; (2) understanding that such differences add to the quality, interest, and value of our lives as individuals; (3) realizing that although we are different we have many things in common; (4) understanding that a multitude of experiences shapes each of us into unique people who share much in common with others; (5) understanding that our common values and beliefs are the basis for our nation's strength; (6) enhancing students' sense of self-worth and participation in our diverse society; and (7) introducing students to the nature of prejudice and its threat to our society. The kit contains a teacher's guide with a discussion of the objectives for each group of activities, a description of the method of implementing each activity, a glossary of terms and a short resource list of books and audio-visual materials; and includes student activity sheets which provide information and ask questions.
