Creative Prescriptions Unlimited, Grades 3-4. Evaluation Program Needs.
East Whittier City School District, CA.
The document provides lesson plans for strengthening the thought processes, including problem solving and creative abilities, of third and fourth grade mentally gifted children. The lessons are organized within the five operations of the mind as defined by J. Guilford's Structure of Intellect (SOI): cognition (10 lessons), memory (6 lessons), divergent production (34 lessons), convergent production (4 lessons), and evaluation (3 lessons). All six products of the SOI model (units, classes, relations, systems, transformations, and implications) are considered; however, emphasis is placed on transformations and implications since these two products are seen to clearly relate to the creative process. Diagrammed for lessons in each of the five operations areas are the curricular objective (such as that given a maze the child will be able to find the most direct route to reach the intended goal), input (such as discuss seeing as being one of the five senses we use in "perception"), learning opportunities, media, output, evaluation, and enrichment. Included in the document are mazes, pictures, puzzles, and other worksheets to be duplicated and used with the lessons. (SBH)
