This study involved a comparison of first and second grade students' performance on the Piagetian Task Administration Instrument (PTAI), the Metropolitan Readiness Test (MRT), and the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) with actual reading achievement measured by placement on the Indiviudally Paced Instruction (IPI) Tracking Card in Reading, which was developed by Duval County, Florida. The subjects were 57 first and second grade children. The results were significant at the first grade level. The correlation between the PTAI and the IPI was .68. The MRT and IPI produced a significant correlation, .52. The correlation between the PTAI and MRT was .61, which would indicate the reliability of the predictor variables. The results indicated that the PTAI is a valid predictor of reading ability. The correlation for the second grade group was lower, but significant, and also indicated that the PTAI was reliable.
