Till Death Do Us Part? Divorce in Canada = Jusqu'a ce que la mort nous separe? Le divorce au Canada.
McCloskey, Donna, Ed.
Transition, v27 n4 Dec 1997
Statistics indicate that the Canadian divorce rate has stabilized, at least for now. To avoid complacency about the flat divorce rate, this issue of "Transition," in both English- and French-language versions, examines the facts in the context of their impact on families. Part 1, "As Long as We Both Shall Love," looks at the current theories about why couples break up, the research on how divorce affects families, and some good, and not-so-good, ideas for changing the divorce situation in Canada. Part 2, "Marriage and Divorce in Canada," gives necessary background on what the numbers can and cannot reveal, and why. Part 3, "After the Breakup," describes the multiple crises triggered by divorce, and the limitations of the legal system in helping families through the ordeal. Part 4, "Canada's New Child Support Package," outlines the federal government's changes to how child support awards are established, enforced, and taxed. (EV)
