LRE Project Exchange: Special Issue on Excellence and LRE.
LRE Project Exchange, spec iss v5 n1 Win 1985
Tips to help persons involved with law-related education (LRE) take advantage of the current demands for educational reform are presented in this special issue, which explores how ferment for reform in education can be a boon to legal education as long as LRE educators understand the changes that are taking place and are alert to ways of making LRE part of the new package. The lead article, "Reforming America's Schools" (David T. Naylor) examines the groups that have generated the recent national reports calling for educational reform. Implications of the reports' recommendations for LRE are discussed. These implications fall into five main areas: classification of educational goals, nature of the curriculum, emphasis on competency testing, improving the quality of teaching, and simulating greater community involvement. The following six articles then discuss what LRE persons can do: "Mandating the Law" (Mary Manemann); "A Nation at Risk: LRE Responds to State Boards and Legislators" (Carolyn Pereira); "Mandated Testing and Competency Examinations" (Margaret Stimmann Branson); "Getting LRE on the Local Books" (James G. Lengel); "Making LRE Part of the Curriculum: How Eight Districts Did It" (James G. Lengel); and "Textbook Adoption and Law-Related Education" (John J. Patrick). (RM)
