Shared Governance at Sierra College.
Sumner, Jo; And Others
The development of shared governance at Sierra College (SC) in California is chronicled in this report. The first sections of the report provide a chronology of team, board, and committee meetings and colloquia involved in the process of implementing shared governance at the college; present summaries of breakout group reports, evaluative comments, and a report on outcomes from one of the colloquia; and two lists of statements representing the colloquium participants' vision for SC and sense of its mission. The next section contains the Sierra Community College District Board Policy on shared governance, covering: (1) the purpose of shared governance; (2) the functions and membership of the college council, faculty senate, classified senate, administrative senate, and various committees and task forces; (3) processes by which all of the governing groups shall operate; and (4) the governance model utilized at SC. The final sections present the constitutions of each of the senates for faculty, classified personnel, and administrative personnel. Each contains provisions relating to membership, purposes, officers and administrative board, nomination and election of officers, duties of officers, representation on the college council, committees, meetings, quorum, parliamentary authority, and amendments.
