Workshop and seminar summaries and abstracts of papers from the tenth international conference on improving university teaching are presented. Topics addressed by theme and seminar presentations are as follows: the professor of the future; adapting postsecondary education to changes in demography, social expectations, and resources; partnerships between higher education, industry, and the professions; liberal education and vocationalism; academic administration for the 21st century; matching technology with the needs of students; academic excellence; humanistic values in the teaching-learning environment; stress and burnout in academia; and a 10-year perspective on faculty development, teaching and learning, teaching with instructional technology, and faculty evaluation. Workshop topics include: course and curriculum design and evaluation, faculty development and self-appraisal, promoting active learning, teaching critical thinking in college, and building self-confidence in mathematics.
