The report describes the first national conference on temporary family supports and integrated respite services systems for the developmentally disabled held in 1978. Program planning information is presented along with evaluation feedback summarized from participant responses. Recommendations from the conference are discussed, including development of a national and state level communication network, provision of consumer education regarding the rights of handicapped persons, and introduction of new federal and state legislation. Conference attendees are listed. The bulk of the document is composed of appendixes, including descriptions of 12 support services, the sample survey form, and a list of publications and resources.
