The papers and discussions in this volume report on the economic status of four minority groups during the middle 1970s. The problems of unemployment, underemployment, and poverty among American Indians, Asian Americans, blacks, and Chicanos are discussed. Emphasis is placed on social policy issues and contemporary economic problems, particularly in the western states. Gains are reported for some groups in some areas and stagnation and retrogression for others. Dr. Jorge Bustamante considers the problems associated with the migration of "undocumented workers." Bernard E. Anderson analyzes the economic trends and opportunities for the black community. Amado Y. Cabezas presents evidence to illustrate the low mobility of Asian Americans in the labor market. Fred E. Romero discusses the occupational mobility of Chicanos. Excerpts are given from a report by Ernest Stevens dealing with American Indians in the labor market and the findings of the American Indian Policy Review Commission regarding the economic status of American Indians are reported.
