With support from the John Templeton Foundation, the editors held a Summit on Acceleration at The University of Iowa in May 2003. They invited distinguished scholars and educators from around the country to help them formulate a national report on acceleration. Together, they deliberated about what schools need to know in order to make the best decisions on educating highly capable students. These vibrant discussions led to the two volumes of "A Nation Deceived: How Schools Hold Back America's Brightest Students." The information in Volume II formed the basis for the content in Volume I.
