Presented are 19 research reports which apply the philosophy of the consulting teacher program at the University of Vermont to provide special education individualized services within regular classrooms for Junior and Senior High School Students with academic and behavioral problems. Included are an overview of the consulting teacher program and a summary of the secondary special education project for school years 1972 and 1973, which emphasize the role of the consulting teacher in the training of the regular class teacher to work with exceptional secondary school students. The research projects, which were conducted in three Vermont school districts, focus on the use of behavior modification, contingency contracting, and token economies for remediation in areas such as language arts, mathematics, reading, self discipline, and study behavior.
