With attention focused on NASP's 40th Anniversary and the coming Boston convention celebrations, some mention should be made of the organizational meeting that preceded NASP and laid the groundwork for its founding and first convention. Little has been written about the historic National Invitational Conference of School Psychologists, Thursday and Friday, March 21-22, 1968. In this article, the author talks about the 1968 National Invitational Conference of School Psychologists which was held at The Christopher Inn, Columbus, Ohio and was sponsored by the Ohio School Psychologists Association. Sources of information on this event include the proceedings of the meeting, newsletters of the Ohio School Psychologists Association (OSPA) and the American Psychological Association Division of School Psychology (Division 16; circa 1967-1969), personal contacts with those who attended the conference, and a brief encyclopedia entry. According to the report of the conference made to the Division 16 Executive Committee in August, 1968, school psychologists throughout the nation would be invited to attend the first convention "and to vote on whether or not they wish to form such an organization; if so, to decide upon its structure, with the committees' suggestions as a starting point."
